According to the legend, Diomedes, the hero
of the Trojan war, landed in Puglia and used the stones of
the walls of the defeated cities to mark off the fields where
he planted the vines he had brought with him. This is where
the variety of grape known as Uva di Troia was born, and here
in the heart of the Diomedes Fields is where we can find the
wine-making company of Luigi Lenoci and Sabino Masciulli,
who in 2000, decided to take over the wine-making firm originally
set up in 1903 and called it Cantina Diomede. Since then their
main aim has been being to shape a company which could produce
high quality wines and in the meantime could also reflect
the local features of the area.
The Companys deep rooting into the local productive
traditions and its using the resources of the area, is representative
of our wine, with quite typical features of the rural culture
and the productive and economic heritage of Apulia.
The wines are nowadays obtained by means of cutting edge technologies,
as a result of strong investments; and the tradition, as the
whole cycle of activities, from the vineyard to the cellar,
lies on the most rigorous respect and recovery of local oenological
traditions, a core issue of our Company guideline.
Infact It is in our cave, which goes back to the mid-19th
century, that our wines mature and reach their best.
As they mature in oak French barrels, at a constant temperature
of 12° C, the aromas gradually blend to become a bouquet that
is in harmony with the taste, forming an indivisible whole.
It is during this phase that our wines slowly mature until
they become sublime.
Our purposes to build and to throw our wines towards new market,
to make them megaphones of traditions, history, characterization
and also innovation. The restoration of the vineyards, the
choice to reduce the quantity of grapes per hectare, the attention
in every productive phase both in the vineyard and in the
cellar, are the patient and tenacious job of our men. This
kind of work contributes to create the quality of our wines
and, at the same time, to value their oenological potential.
Further more, the use of some native grapes, the sage skill
of our wine makers and the climatic features of our area give
us everything necessary to produce and make unique our wines.
